The SABS performed a burning test on a section of Harvey thatch roofing in 2011; after being exposed to fire on the vertical and horizontal joints for 30 minutes, the Cape Reed thatching underneath did not catch fire. Unlike exposed thatch roofing, Harvey Tiles will not catch fire when hit by lightning.
