WHY US?

As local suppliers, we’ve done cladding on various kinds of thatch roofing for residential and commercial purposes. Some of our work includes all the units at Hazyview Cabanas, 74 units at Mabalingwe Nature Reserve, we’ve also covered the thatch roofing at Ngwenya Lodge, Kambaku Golf Club and Sabie Park.

The SABS performed a burning test on a section of Harvey thatch roofing in 2011; after being exposed to fire on the vertical and horizontal joints for 30 minutes, the Cape Reed thatching underneath did not catch fire. Unlike exposed thatch roofing, Harvey Tiles will not catch fire when hit by lightning.

Due to the highly effective water drainage qualities of Harvey Tiles, they do not retain water like exposed thatch roofs do, and due to their specially designed surfaces, fungi and algae will not grow on the tiles and damage their integrity.

Birds, squirrels, monkeys and other vermin are known to damage thatch roofing for various reasons, whether they dig holes in it to build nests or pulling out the reeds to access bugs, it is relatively easy for pests to damage thatch roofing. By cladding the reeds with Harvey Tiles, you effectively prolong the lifespan of your thatch roof by years.

Harvey Tiles are not only a protective barrier against animals but against natural elements as well; Cape Reeds are essentially organic material and is affected by natural elements. A layer of durable Harvey Tiles will protect your thatch roof from wind, rain, hail, harsh sun and more.

A thatch roof does not last forever and it will need to be re-done every once in a while. That’s why cladding thatch roofs with Harvey Tiles will increase the life span and make the entire structure more durable in the long run. The ambiance of a traditional thatch roof will also not be lost, as the Harvey Tiles are very close in colour to thatching
